SPEAR's centre is in Warwickshire with a network of Foster Homes in and around the Midlands. The charity fulfils a unique gap for the welfare of elderly and/or neglected horses, ponies, donkeys and other large animals.

 SPEAR was established as a registered charity in 1996. SPEAR has witnessed many horrific cases and work closely with the RSPCA, assisting them by nursing many animals suffering cruelty and neglect.

 The work of SPEAR would not be possible without the SPEAR Trustees and the many helpers and volunteers who devote time and effort to raising funds and supporting the work of the charity.

Sue Pike was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1992 for services to animal welfare.
